In 2017, Stuart Woods became the 12th AMA Queensland Foundation scholarship recipient to successfully graduate medical school. Stuart continues to have a very strong passion for rural healthcare and supporting the most vulnerable people it sometimes represents. He plans on working in a rural region in the future, whether as a rural generalist or a regional specialist that does many outreach clinics. Stuart said, “Having the AMAQ bursury means that in the past year (when I was so stressed about my final exams) I didn’t have to worry about rent or incidental emergency expenses which always seem to pop up. To put it better, I feel this bursary not only allows me to focus on important clinical learning without needing to worry about supporting myself with part time work, but it also provides a bit of a safety blanket so that if the unexpected occurs – everything will still be alright.”
