As the first person in his family to attend university, Noah considers the opportunity both a privilege and a challenge. Initially studying engineering, a personal experience with healthcare motivated him to change career paths and pursue a medical degree.

“My grandmother’s prolonged hospitalisation made me realise that my true passion was in helping others during their times of need. Inspired by this, I transitioned to medicine, a field that has always intrigued me,” Noah said.

Noah’s passion for the regions has led him to Bundaberg, where he is enrolled in the UQ Rural Medical Program (RMP) as part of the first cohort in the Wide Bay region.

“I was particularly drawn to studying in a regional setting, where I could learn to address the healthcare disparities in rural and regional communities,” he said.

Since moving to the region, Noah has harnessed his passion for regional health to establish the Bundaberg Easy Access Community Health (BEACH) Clinic by The VacSeen Project, providing free primary healthcare to those in need.

“I love the complexity of medicine, yet find immense satisfaction in providing fundamental, compassionate care that meets patients’ most basic needs,” he said.
“My goal is to serve in regional and rural areas, where healthcare professionals are often in short supply, ensuring that all individuals have access to the quality care they deserve.

He has also founded the Wide Bay Medical Society (WBMS), the Wide Bay Arm of the University if Queensland Medical Society (UQMS), to provide future medical students studying in regional Queensland with access to the same support and resources as those in Brisbane.

Until now, Noah has been supported financially through a program for regional medical students. However, this support will be discontinued next month, leaving a considerable shortfall in basic living costs, including rent – a shortfall that is difficult to make up given the demands of full-time medical studies.

“The AMA Queensland Foundation scholarship will bridge that gap in my finances, ensuring I can continue my studies without the added financial pressure,” he said.

“The funds will help ensure that I can maintain stable housing and continue to meet the rigorous requirements of my medical education, ultimately allowing me to complete my studies and contribute to the healthcare needs of regional Queensland.”
