Support for medical students experiencing financial hardship

Success! Your request has been sent and a representative will be in contact soon.

The AMA Queensland Foundation recognises that studying medicine is a significant commitment and can be difficult without financial support. Since 2004, the Foundation has provided more than $575,000 in financial assistance to 39 medical students experiencing financially difficulty through our Medical Student Scholarship program. Many of these students have not only gone on to graduate as doctors, but are carving out incredible careers in medicine across Queensland, thanks in part to the helping hand they received in their time of need.

Open now - 2026 scholarship applications

medical student scholarship for financial hardshipFor medical student who are experiencing financial difficulty this year, the Foundation scholarships are currently open for application, closing 5pm AEST Friday 20 March 2026. Up to four students will be awarded Medical Student Scholarships in 2026 and will receive $10,000 paid in two equal instalments. This support can help them with rent, university fees, cost of relocating for placements, textbooks or just generally keeping their heads above water while they dedicate themselves to their studies.

If you know a student doing it tough financially, we encourage you to share this opportunity with them.

Advice available at Medical Careers Expo

The Foundation will attend the upcoming AMA Queensland Medical Careers Expo this Saturday 14 March. The team is happy to answer any questions about the scholarship’s conditions and eligibility. Come and see us at Booth 1.

Do you have capacity to support a medical student in need?

medical students in hardship sponsor one student programEach year, the Foundation receives dozens more deserving scholarship applications than our annual fundraising can provide for. Through the Foundation’s Sponsor one Student (SoS) Program you can demonstrate your corporate responsibility or philanthropy by supporting a medical student who is experiencing financial difficulties.

Open to individuals as well as corporations and other organisations, support in your name of $10,000 in a single year, or a commitment across multiple years, can make the world of difference to a future doctor who is unsure of how they might continue their studies. Expressions of interest are currently open for SoS supporters.Together, we can ensure that Queensland’s future doctors are well supported, regardless of their financial background. Reach out to the Foundation team for a Prospectus [email protected].
