Brittany Hungerford-Fox 2026 Medical Student Scholarship Recipient2026 AMA Queensland Foundation Medical Student Scholarship recipient and 4th Year Medical Student at Griffith University, Sunshine Coast.

As the primary carer for two young children, Brittany has balanced the demands of full-time medical study alongside family responsibilities while navigating the financial pressures that can accompany medical training.

"My path through university has been unconventional and often challenging. I manage a chronic health condition that can cause significant pain and fatigue, adding another layer to balancing study, clinical placements and raising my two children. Despite this, studying medicine felt like a natural extension of who I am. I've always been drawn to understanding people and wanted a career where I could combine science with genuine human connection."
Brittany's experiences have shaped her perspective as a future doctor and strengthened her interest in women's health, mental health and person-centred care.

"I'm particularly interested in women's health, mental health and general practice, where I hope to offer continuity of care and a holistic approach that recognises the physical, emotional and social aspects of a person's health."

Brittany said the challenges she has faced continue to motivate her, knowing they are helping shape the doctor she will become and, hopefully, serving as an inspiration to her own children.

"I want my children to see that it's possible to build a meaningful life, even when the path isn't straightforward."
Balancing full-time clinical placements with family responsibilities can make it difficult to maintain regular paid work, placing additional financial pressure on everyday living and placement-related expenses.

"This scholarship will make a genuine difference to my family. It will help ease the financial pressure that comes with full-time placements and allow me to focus on learning and finishing my medical degree. I'm incredibly grateful to the Stan and Maureen Duke Foundation and the AMA Queensland Foundation for their generosity and support."
