June 2025 Edition

The Foundation launched our EOFY Tax Appeal in May, and in June, the  Appeal continued. We meet the newly awarded Medical Student Scholarship and GPTQ Bursary recipients, and the nine organisations supporting victim-survivors of domestic and family violence who received small grants. The Foundation attended Dinner for the Profession in May, where we held a Silent Auction and Raffle, and opened up a survey for Queensland doctors. We also take a trip down memory lane with our first scholarship recipient Dr Emily Vagg (2004) as part of our "25 years of giving back" series. 


April 2025 Edition

In April, the Foundation had applications open for our annual GPTQ Bursary for Queensland GPs and GPRs. For our "25 years of giving back" series, we checked back in with a previous bursary recipient, 2023 awardee Dr Kellie West. 


March 2025 Edition

In March we opened our annual GPTQ Bursary applications, and saw final days to submit applications for our Medical Student Scholarships. 2025 is the Foundation's 25th year, and we offered the first article in our "25 years of giving back" series, where we catch with up with Mr Neil Mackintosh about the establishment of AMA Queensland Foundation on July 1, 2000 and the Foundation's early initiatives. 


February 2025 Edition

In February, we were seeking applications for our Medical Student Scholarshps, and also expressions of interest for the Sponsor one Student (SoS) Program, which enables the Foundation to increase the number of scholarship applications we can offer, through partnership with individuals and organisations. We also launched a small grants initiative in partnership with South Brisbane PHN to support and enhance the capacity of Queensland organisations that assist victim-survivors of family and domestic violence.


December 2024 Edition

In December the Foundation continued our annual Christmas Appeal, raising much-needed funds for family violence support services to continue their work. We featured the recent support we had provided to UQCCR for prostate cancer research, and funding for The Ladybird Care Foundation Peer Mentoring Program. We also congratulated Medical Student Scholarship recipients who had graduated in 2024 - Dr Goachagorn Darathai (awarded in 2024), and Dr Hiruni Gunasekera (awarded in 2022).

In November we launched our 2023 Christmas appeal 'give the gift of education', with the target of raising  $20,000 to be able to create two additional $10,000 scholarships. This month we announced applications are now open for 2023 AMA Queensland Foundation Medical Student Scholarships. We also ask on behalf of The VacSeen Project, Brisbane-based GP if they want to make a difference and work alongside a passionate medical students in a GP-led team.


October 2022 Edition

In October we announced the the money raised for the Foundation at the Women in Medicine Breakfast. Bequests and a pamper-pack raffle were available for purchase at the event and all proceeds went directly towards the Foundation, raising a total of $3,730. We also welcomed our new AMA Queensland Foundation director, Anna Jones and announced the launch of the Medical Student Scholarships for 2023.


September 2022 Edition

In September announced how the Foundation's EOFY tax appeal for Youngcare directly impacted the lives of 12 people and their families. This month we also encouraged everyone to buy their Play for Purpose raffle tickets as the raffle is closing at the end of the month.


August 2022 Edition

In August we announced the Foundation raised a total of $70,583 in the EOFY tax appeal to support their At Home Care Grants and Home Support Grants. In this edition you'll learn about one of our funding recipients, the VacSeen Project, and you'll meet our Executive Director, Dr Brett Dale.


July 2022 Edition

In July we congratulated long-serving former AMA Queensland Foundation director and President Dr Steve Hambleton who was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours. We shared how the Foundation Flood Grant made an impact on Queensland families, including a story from Flood Grant recipient Mahnaz Abbasi. This month we also recognised our Foundation Board Director, Prof Chris Perry OAM.


June 2022 Edition

In June we joined The VacSeen Project on ABC Radio's Morning Show to chat about the Foundation $10,000 donation and how it has helped the organisation. We also launched our EOFY Tax Appeal where we hope to raise $25,000 to support Youngcare's At Home Care and Home Support Grants. See how your donation has helped a family who was impacted by the floods and received our flood grant. 


May 2022 Edition

In May wrapped up our Flood Assistance Grants and Fundraiser initiative where we helped 25 patients, two medical practices and one doctor in training get back up on their feet. We also shared more information about the Foundation Charity Event including some of the main silent auction and raffle prizes. 


April 2022 Edition

In April we launched our flood assistance grants and flood fundraiser to support flood-affected Queenslanders. We had an overwhelming response and received more than 30 applications for the Medical Student Scholarships. This month we also released our 2021 Annual Report and welcomed our new AMA Queensland Foundation Director, Melanie Mayne-Wilson.
