Scholarship recipients recognised at Dinner for the Profession

The AMA Queensland Foundation was honoured to be a part of AMA Queensland's Dinner for the Profession in 2026 as both the Charity Partner for the evening, and to award recipients of the 2026 Medical Student Scholarships alongside the prestigious AMA Queensland awards. The event was a spectacular rainforest-themed evening held at Blackbird, overlooking the dazzling lights of the Brisbane river. 

Medical Student Scholarship recipients were awarded by Outgoing Foundation Chair Dr Dilip Dhupelia, and newly appointed Chair Dr Eleanor Chew OAM. 

Congratulations to the Foundation's 2026 Medical Student Scholarship recipients:

• Hannah Newsome

• and Adeena Thankakumar, whose scholarship was sponsored by the Indian Medical Association of Queensland.

• Shreya Somasundaran (unfortunately Shreya was unable to attend) 

The Foundation also took the opportunity to update attendess on the year's achievements. Outgoing Chair Dr Dilip Dhueplia (pictured above), who stepped down from the Foundation Board at the May AGM after serving full tenure, also shared a moving speech reflecting on his time as Chair.  

Attendees lend their support for medical student scholarship appeal

The Foundation held a silent auction and raffle during the event, with all proceeds going towards the appeal for Medical Student Scholarships. 

Through the generosity of supporters who bought raffle tickets or bid on the beautiful jewellery on the evening, the Foundation has raised a total of $12,690.64 which will go towards supporting scholarships for medical students experiencing financial hardship in 2027.
